Klopp: DFL-Supercup final was a hell of a match

The Borussia Dortmund trainer was ecstatic after watching his side lift the DFL-Supercup following a 4-2 win over Bayern Munich

 Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp hailed the efforts of his men after they comprehensively beat Bayern Munich 4-2 to clinch the DFL-Supercup on Saturday.

Die Roten beat Dortmund to the Bundesliga and Champions League double last season, but strikes from Marco Reus and Ilkay Gundogan as well as Daniel Van Buyten's own goal earned Klopp's men their revenge.

And the German trainer was adamant the result would serve as the ideal springboard for the team's upcoming commitments.

"At this stage of the pre-season with one week until the cup and two weeks until the Bundesliga, this was a hell of a match," Klopp told reporters after the game.

"It was an amazing game. I think you could see that both teams really wanted to win. The winner is always happy and the loser does not care too much – this is the great thing about the Supercup."

BVB goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller reflected his coach's enthusiasm, stating: "We are very happy.

"We know, when we have a plan before a match, and usually it's a good plan, then we can be a difficult opponent for any team."

The Signal Iduna Park side will take on Wilhelmshaven in the first round of the DFB-Pokal next Saturday, before travelling to Augsburg in their Bundesliga curtain-raiser on August 10.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have arrived to boost the options available to die Schwarzgelben this year following the sale of Mario Gotze to Bayern.
