The defender faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing hip surgery and will miss the start of next season.
Borussia Dortmund will have to fare without the services of Lukasz Piszczek in the opening stages of the 2013-14 campaign due to injury.
The Poland international has long been plagued by hip problems and has now undergone surgery - which was planned before the Champions League final - that will keep him sidelined for about five months.
"Borussia Dortmund right back Lukasz Piszczek has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his right hip on Thursday," a statement on the BVB website reads. "The reason for the procedure, which was performed by Prof. Dr. Dienst at the OCM Hospital in Munich, was damage to the cartilage of the joint and to the femoral head.
"The defensive specialist, who has made 162 appearances in the Bundesliga (scoring nine goals) and won 34 caps for Poland, is set to miss five months with the injury."
Piszczek is likely to be replaced by new signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos during his absence.
